Underepresented, undersubscribed and dominated by the US?
You may be able to guess by the .co.uk domain name and the Anglo-centrism of Modern Life, but to clarify, I hail from England in the United Kingdom. With all the buzz about blogs in the UK media (notably the BBC, Guardian and the Times Online, amongst other forward-thinking publications), one would have thought the UK blogosphere would be a shining example of how to embrace new media. Meaningless number or viable benchmark?
Technorati has established itself as the definitive tracker for the blogosphere – with more than 50 million blogs in their index, they certainly have a gargantuan task at hand when it comes to organizing that information. Much in the same way that Google ranks search engine results by link popularity, Technorati keeps track of who’s linked to who in the world of the blogosphere, accumulating data on the ‘authority’ of such publications. After a long hiatus due to increased working commitment, lack of inspiration, and unclear goals: I've decided not to rekindle this blog but to start anew in more fertile soil. Modern Life will remain online as-is for the forseeable future.
